We ended up at Cafe du Monde around 9pm, and it wasn't too crowded, for a change. The wind was blowing hard all night, so they had these green curtains hanging down to keep the wind from taking their customers. Nonetheless, we opted to dine inside in the small enclosed room, watching all the waiters go through their pickup procedures. We ordered our usual fare - two orders of beignets and a large cup of hot chocolate with an extra cup. A waiter we met on our last trip introduced us to that trick - you end up with about three cups worth of hot chocolate for less than the price of two small cups. The beignets were, as always, absolutely delicious, and devoured in short order (after I risked my own life by blowing powdered sugar on Aaron's black shirt - but hey, it was a cute picture). I love dunking a piece of the beignet into the hot chocolate before eating (it's SO good!), but most folks disagree and keep their beignet dry. They're missing out. One of the best snacks in New Orleans for under five bucks including tax.

Food: 7 - they do basically three things here - beignets, chicory coffee, and hot chocolate. they do them all very well!
Ambience: 4 - dozens of tables outside (and some inside), often covered with powdered sugar. excellent for people-watching.
Service: 3 - well, it's really busy here and the wait staff is always harried. it's often hard to get ahold of someone if you wish to order a second round.
Overall: 6 - you cannot have a better (and fresher!) snack in new orleans, period.
